OUR TRIP TO AKSHAYA PATRA: A STEP TOWARDS SMILES

Consent letter in my hand, I walked into school on the 18th of December, excited for my excursion to the Akshaya Patra kitchen. One of the many mega kitchens in India, Akshaya Patra is known for feeding 40,000 – 50,000 govt. school children, safe, healthy and pure vegetarian food, daily.

The ride to Jigani was a rather ordinary one. My friends and I stepped into the serene premises of the kitchen site, not really knowing what exactly to expect. But one thing we understood instantly was that this foundation definitely takes its cleanliness seriously, evident by all the places where you could find hand sanitizer, and also as entry within the workspace was permitted only after wearing a protective hair net and a mask to cover our mouths.

Once we had entered, it was as if the world around us was magnified. The size of their coconut grater was about the size of an average bed side table. The vegetables were hand cut, and produce was stored in a cold storage that maintains a temperature of 50C. Big vessels and containers with capacities ranging from 500kgs – 3000kgs, large containers for frying, produced delicious healthy food that anybody would love.

One unique fact about these kitchens is that the food is cooked with steam, carried via pipelines, rather than flames, thereby cooking about 500kgs of it in about 15mins. The steam is produced due to heat energy produced by the briquettes that are burnt in large furnaces, away from the kitchen area.

The food given to us was delicious, modest and simply scrumptious, with many of us asking for seconds and thirds, embarrassment clearly etched on our faces, which however, was worth it. After filling our stomachs, the next task on our agenda was going to the nearby govt. school and serving the students lunch. If I were to be honest, what most of us were looking forward to was the amazing food we would get to eat from there. However, after our experience at the government school my friends and I realized that nothing could beat the happiness we felt over there.

All the students were assembled in lines, as we got ready, ladle in handle, giving the curries a good mix. There was nothing complicated with the serving process, each of us taking turns to serve our friends of the other school. I too got a chance for serving my favorite curry to some of them. But even with the lack of grandiosity, I could feel something warm immerge in my chest. That very feeling is what I would call a mix of gratitude and satisfaction.

Seeing the happy faces of the children, both younger and around the same age as me, filling their hungry little stomachs, made me realize how thankful I must be for the boons I have been born with. Whether one is rich or poor, happiness exists, making it even more satisfying and gratifying to try and work towards a more noble cause. It is only when we step down the high horse of our egos, do we realize everything waiting to be explored and all the people one must visit.

This experience truly is something my companions and I would definitely treasure deep within our hearts, remembering it for the rest of our lives.

MY PLEDGE FOR OUR FUTURE

In my dream I saw last night,
I am the Granny of a lovely girl named Bright.
Bright and I were walking down the street.
There were scorching sun and so much heat.
Heaps of garbage and plastics everywhere,
Our faces covered, we walked through the polluted air.😷
Bright was tired and so was I,
Suddenly her eyes brightened as she jumped up high.
Excited, she said”Granny, what is that thing in that compound?
It’s green on the top with a brown stand
stuck to the ground”.
I said, “OH WOW !! THAT’S A TREE !!!
Someone has taken care and preserved it, see!
They give us shade, purify the air.
Beautiful flowers and sweet fruits they bear.”
Said Bright, “Its wonderful Granny, something new I see.
WHY DID YOU NOT PRESERVE A TREE FOR ME?”😔
I rise from my sleep, feeling guilty as never,
With tears in my eyes I rush to my Mother.😢
Saying…”Oh Mother dear, this PLEDGE I take,
For my Little Grand Daughter’s sake.
I will care for Mother Nature the way I care for you.
Will plant more trees and stop using plastics too.
I will preserve Mother Nature for my Little Grand Daughter.
And ensure that she does too without a mutter.”🤨

“To err is human, to forgive divine”

“To err is human, to forgive divine”

The Global forgiveness day is observed on 7th July every year but is perhaps not understood and celebrated in its true spirit as it should be. It is in our nature to commit mistakes, repeat mistakes or carry on without realising we have even made one. The consequences of grave mistakes or unintended ones invariably affect our relationships in the long run. An unhappy, disgruntled or hurt individual carries the burden of unhappiness wherever he or she goes. The family, the society and the country at large are affected when such citizens live all their lives with grudges, unable to forgive and forget or even worse waiting for an opportunity for vengeance.

As simple as it may sound, forgiveness is the key to relieving one from the conundrums of remorse, regret, hatred and unhappiness. It is important to forgive to relieve oneself from such predicaments and allow oneself and others to live a happier and more fruitful life.

If only we could forgive all who have aggrieved us, start afresh on a new note and find that alluring sense of peace it brings to a wounded soul. Imagine a world free of all hatred, all animosity , where once warring communities now make peace with each other, countries who are ever ready at the brink of war learn to live peacefully, where people are drawn closer by sheer love and forgiveness and shun all hatred in the name of religion or region, caste or creed. The world would indeed be rid of most of its problems with people jointly working towards a better life.

It is thus, more significant than ever before to celebrate the ability to forgive, to let wounds heal, to let go of all hatred and truly celebrate the Global Forgiveness Day to ensure a happy individual makes a happier world.

WHAT IS GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION?

WHAT IS GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION?
A Geographical Indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific
geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
In order to function as a GI, a sign must identify a product as originating in a given
place. In addition, the qualities, characteristics or reputation of the product should
be essentially due to the place of origin. Since the qualities depend on the
geographical place of production, there is a clear link between the product and its
original place of production.
A geographical indication legal right enables those who have the right to use the
indication to prevent its use by a third party whose product does not conform to the
applicable standards. For example, in the jurisdictions in which the Darjeeling
geographical indication is protected, producers of Darjeeling tea can exclude use of
the term “Darjeeling” for tea not grown in their tea gardens or not produced
according to the standards set out in the code of practice for the geographical
indication.
However, a legally protected geographical indication does not enable the holder to
prevent someone from making a product using the same techniques as those set out
in the standards for that indication. Legal protection for a geographical indication is
usually obtained by acquiring a right over the sign that constitutes the indication.
Geogrpahical Indications are typically used for agricultural products, foodstuffs, wine
and spirit drinks, handicrafts and industrial products.
Broadly speaking GI are protected in different countries and regional systems
through a wide variety of approaches and these approaches have been developed in
accordance with different legal traditions and within a framework of individual
historical and economic conditions.

WORLDWIDE EXPOSURE FOR YOUR INNOVATION

Intellectual Property is an increasingly valuable asset in today’s global market place and it
has become even more important that the innovations be protected with patents,
trademarks, copyright and trade secrets. Apart from protecting your innovations in India,
the Indian Government have facilitated us in protecting your unique ideas / inventions in
other countries also from India by way of a system called Madrid Protocol for Trademarks,
National Phase Entry – PCT (Patent Co-operation Treaty) for Patents and International
protection for Designs.
The World Intellectual Property Organization has significantly simplified the process for
simultaneously seeking IP protection in a large number of countries from India. By just
submitting the required legal documents in India, your innovation will be protected and
recognised worldwide. The procedure and system for worldwide protection of your
innovations are stated below:
1. International protection of inventions is provided under the PCT System, the
worldwide system for simplified multiple filing of patent applications. By filing one
international patent application under the PCT, you actually apply for protection of
an invention in each of a large number of member countries (now more than one
hundred) throughout the world.
2. International protection of Trademarks is provided under the Madrid System.
An international registration under the Madrid System produces the same effects as
an application for registration of the mark filed in each of the countries designated
by the applicant and unless rejected by the office of a designated country within a
certain period, has the same effect in that country as a registration in the Trademark
Registry of that country.
3. International protection of Industrial Designs is provided by the Hague
Agreement. This system gives the owner of an industrial design the possibility to
have his/ her design protected in several countries by simply filing one application.

LEGAL PROTECTION FOR SEMICONDUCTOR INTERGRATED CIRCUITS LAYOUT DESIGNS IN INDIA

In modern technology, integrated circuits are essential elements for a wide range of electrical products such as watches, television sets, washing machines, cars, computers, smart phones and all other digital devices. Developing innovative layout designs of integrated circuits is essential for the production of ever smaller digital devices with more functions. While the creation of a new layout design is usually the result of an enormous investment, both in financial term and in terms of the time required from highly qualified experts, the copying of such a layout design may cost only a fraction of the original investment. In order to prevent unauthorized copying of layout designs and to provide incentives for investing in this field, the layout design of integrated circuit is legally protected under the Intellectual Property System. Children’s are always innovative and their brilliant innovations and working prototypes has to be recognised and appreciated. It’s very important for the young innovators who are very much interested and involved in designing integrated circuit layout to legally protect their innovations in India under the Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout Design Act 2000. If you’re kid launches a new product with some unique features, of any Integrated Circuit Layout Design which is in original form, distinctive, capable of distinguishing from any other layout design and have not been commercially exploited anywhere in India or in a convention country can be legally registered in India.
